Fatass update

Filed under: I need to eat more salads, fatso — miggie smalls @ 9:45 am

I participated in the Capitol 10K yesterday, and I was kind of scared because one, I’m obese, and two, I finished 2nd to last of all males in my previous 10K. I know that a lot more people run the Cap 10K, and my results weren’t going to be that bad, but my pretty putrid results were in the back of my mind.

The conditions during the race were pretty bad, I guess. It was humid and it rained for most of the race. The powers-that-be don’t consider that “optimal running conditions” for some reason. I’m so glad Team Zen hooked me up with a tech shirt, because I know if I had been wearing cotton, it would’ve been a disaster.

I ran with my Team Zen homie, Anjie, and although I probably would’ve finished sooner if I did it truly solo, I think it felt better to push each other. She wanted to flake out on the running a few times, and we would take a lot of walking breaks, but in the end I was still able to blow my previous time out of the water. I shaved 17 minutes off my previous 10K! Now, to most people, 1:22 would be an abomination, but this is a crazy breakthrough for me. I know that if I had done it by myself, it could’ve easily been 1:15, but I don’t care. I’m a part of a team, and I just did what teammates do.

My next race is the Bun Run in two weeks. I’m hoping for a sub 13 min/mi pace. We’ll see.

Iconz - Get “Crunked” Up

Filed under: old school — miggie smalls @ 10:10 pm

I remember blasting this song all the time when I was working at Da Bomb. I’m sure that my cousins and I are the only ones that remember that I actually worked there for a few months.

Oh, you have a desk job? That’s, uh, nice.

I just realized that my friend Ella is in the Peace Corps and is doing big things in Peru. I’ve been her friend on Facebook for awhile, but I had never really read her profile, because who has time for all that? I’m happy for her, but yet at the same time I’m sad for me. Yet another instance where I’m reminded that I’m totally Loser Von Patheticston.

Here’s her peace corps blog, where hopefully you’ll learn about her awesome adventures where she visits a foreign land and changes their lives in ways that you couldn’t imagine. Last year I let a kid go to the restroom before me at a gas station in Pleasanton, on my way to Corpus. We are all saints in our own way.

I’m back

One thing I never understood about Jordan Brand affiliation with college basketball teams - how the hell did Cal-Berkeley get that affiliation? Maybe from back when Jason Kidd was rocking J’s, I don’t know.

The cynicist in me tells me that the pan over the “Appalachian Mountaineers” logo is a subtle dig at the Michigan Wolverines, which will be an adidas program starting this summer.

How did I miss this?

Filed under: movies — miggie smalls @ 2:05 pm

I had Grandma’s Boy on the DVR for about a month before I finally was able to watch it last night. I don’t now how I went so long without seeing this, but this was easily the most that I’ve laughed all frickin’ year, for any movie. Marcelina was very amused - I don’t think she’s seen Daddy’s true guffawing in action yet. When she was younger, my stupid laugh would scare her, but now she tries to copy me: she laughs as loud as she can, even though she has no clue what’s going on.

This was easily my favorite scene.

Man, it was great to see a truly funny Happy Madison production - the best since Deuce Bigalow.
